When to Stay Home Sick

It is sometimes hard to know if a child is too sick to attend school. Children with the following should stay home:

Fevers of 100 degrees or higher
Vomiting or diarrhea due to illness
When advised to stay home by a provider
Rash, without a medical release
If symptoms make it difficult to participate in school
Students with fever should not return to school until the fever has been gone for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medication. Some of the decision to send your child to school, or not, depends on your child’s energy level and ability to participate in school. Children with a rash must present a note from a healthcare provider in order to return to school. Students with mild congestion, mild sore throat, or mild cough – without fever and not taking fever reducing medication – can usually attend school.

Reminder! All students must have required vaccines or an approved exemption to attend school. This is especially important for Pre-K, 7th, and 12th grade students. Free immunizations are available through SFPS, with walk-in clinics on July 25, July 30, and August 6.

¡Recordatorio!
